Police statement as A63 section shut off with air ambulance called to serious crash

A woman has been taken to hospital following a single vehicle collision that has closed off the entry to one of Hull’s major roads.

The collision, which involved a single black Volkswagen Golf, happened on the A63 eastbound slip road at Hesslewood, at around 7pm on Wednesday night.

An air ambulance, three fire crews and police were all in attendance at the scene of the collision.

Police closed off the slip road onto the A63, with traffic directed towards Hull via the A15 and Boothferry Road, Hessle.

Eyewitnesses described seeing police and an ambulance “hurtling past down the A63 eastbound.”

The slip road is the main entry into Hull from the Humber Bridge, and is likely to remain shut for some time.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police confirmed the woman had been taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries.

She said: “We are currently on the A63 responding to a single vehicle collision involving a black Volkswagen Golf.

“One woman has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries.

“Traffic is currently being diverted via the A15, Boothferry Road Hessle.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.”

The slip road shut off after crash on the A63

Humberside Fire and Rescue confirmed they were in attendance at the scene after receiving a call at 19.09pm.

A spokeswoman for the team, said: “We got the call at 19.09pm and have three fire engines and a RSU in attendance at the scene.”

An RSU (Rescue Support Unit) is a custom built vehicle equipped to deal with rescues requiring specialist or heavy duty equipment.
