Nigel Adkins takes to Twitter to reveal hopes of imminent movement in the transfer market

Nigel Adkins is hopeful Hull City will be able to add to their squad before flying out to Portugal this weekend.

Despite claiming towards the end of last season that he wanted his business done early in the window, Adkins has been able to welcome just one summer signing so far, landing US international Eric Lichaj from Nottingham Forest.

Therefore, after losing eight players of last season’s side on free transfers and a further four as loaned players return to their parent clubs, he finds himself working with an extremely threadbare squad.

The Tigers entered their second week of pre-season training on Monday, before they are due to travel to the Algarve on Sunday to partake in a warm weather training camp that will take in two friendlies against Maritimo and Braga.

Nevertheless, the head coach remains optimistic the club will be able to fill a few more seats on their plane before the weekend.

Replying to a fan on social media, Adkins tweeted: “Would like to believe we will get a few more players signed before we head off to Portugal on Sunday.”

City have been linked to a string of defenders over the last week, with interest reportedly being shown in Motherwell’s Cedric Kipre, Scunthorpe United’s Conor Townsend, Cammy Kerr of Dundee and Dutchman Jordy de Wijs.
