Nigel Adkins provides update on Ondrej Mazuch and Jarrod Bowen after they limped out of Hull City friendly

Hull City boss Nigel Adkins has allayed fears Jarrod Bowen and Ondrej Mazuch could face long spells on the sidelines after seeing both players collect injuries in the 2-1 win over Maritimo.

Mazuch, who missed the bulk of last season with hamstring problems, lasted just 38 minutes of the friendly at the Estadio Da Nora in Albufeira when collecting an ill-timed knee injury.

Bowen was also forced off before half-time after suffering a nasty cut but Adkins is not ruling out last season’s top scorer from featuring in Friday’s clash with Braga.

Mazuch’s injury is the greater concern but Adkins is hopeful the defender’s latest setback is not too serious.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” he explained. “It looks as though Ondrej has jarred his knee a bit and Jarrod has got a nasty kick on his leg.

“He’s got stud marks raked down his legs. That’ll be painful for a couple of days I imagine. We’ll see where we are for Friday. Ondrej might struggle but we’ll wait and see with Jarrod.

“We feared the worst originally with Ondrej but he carried on for a period and then came off.”

Angus MacDonald was a notable absentee as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder and he will not be involved against Braga.

“He’s in non-contact at the moment so he’ll not play on Friday either. He’ll step it up next week,” added Adkins.
