Lee Radford insists Hull FC will never be burned again like they were in the 2018 Super League season due to an array of injuries.
The Black and Whites’ boss admits he has learned a great deal from a campaign which saw his side lose their last eleven matches to finish eighth.
On the heels of back to back third-place finishes and two Challenge Cup final wins, last season was massively underwhelming for FC and their fans.
But Radford is adamant that the club is better prepared for any storms that come their way next year.
“If one thing from last season has taught me anything, you have to be prepared for everything,” Radford told Hull Live. “I’ll never be burned twice like that with regards to injuries.
“We have to be better prepared if that happens again. I’m pretty certain we are better equipped to deal with having players out.
“We are putting more into the players this pre-season in terms of physical work and the additions have thickened out the squad.”
Hull are still feeling the effects of the 2018 injury issues, though, in the fourth week of pre-season ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Marc Sneyd (knee), Josh Bowden (knee), Josh Griffin (hernia), Mickey Paea (calf) and Chris Green (Achilles) are all not in full practice yet. Green is the only one of those players ruled out for round one of the 2019 season at Hull KR on February 1, but Radford explains that the medical staff have been happy with the progress of the club’s injured stars.
“Greeny is a nine-month injury so when he did it we knew it would go into next season anyway,” Radford added. “We are that far away on the other lads it’s hard to say when they will be back. Players have different recoveries depending on a lot of factors.
“But most importantly with less than ten weeks to go until the start of the season, our conditioning staff are over the moon with how the rehab has gone for the players who were injured.
“Some of our other international players in Bureta Faraimo, Hakim Miloudi and Sika Manu have been filtering through in the last week as well so the pre-season is going well for us.”
