Hull coastguard releases new statement after teams called to Humber Bridge

Hull’s coastguard has issued new information after rescue crews and police officers were seen in the Humber on Monday night.

At the time of the search, which was seen taking place in Hessle Foreshore near to the Humber Bridge, a Humber Coastguard spokesman said crews had been called out at 7.27pm after reports of an “object” in the water.

It remained unclear what the object was.

However, it has been confirmed nothing was found, despite teams scouring a “substantial distance” along the Humber.

Coastguard and police at incident by Humber Bridge

A statement was issued at midnight on Facebook by Hull Coastguard Rescue Team, saying: “Coastguard teams met with Humberside Police and the first informant on scene, and searched a substantial distance along the North Bank of the river utilising teams from Hull and Withernsea, while Humber Rescue and the Police launched vessels to search the river itself.

“After an extensive search the teams stood down pending any further sightings.

“Thanks to the member of the public who was vigilant and called us.”

Humberside Police were also called out to the scene at about 7.30pm on Monday night.

A spokesman for Humber Coastguard said: “Hull and Withernsea Coastguard along with Humber Rescue and Humberside Police have extensively searched the water around Humber Bridge after reports of something being seen in the water.

“We can confirm that nothing untoward has been found and we are now wrapping up the search along with Humberside Police.”
