Hull City are hoping to finalise a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Jordy de Wijs before the weekend, according to reports in the Netherlands.
Taking to social media yesterday, head coach Nigel Adkins revealed his hopes of being able to welcome new signings before the squad are due to travel to Portugal for a warm weather pre-season training camp on Sunday.
“Would like to believe we will get a few more players signed before we head off to Portugal on Sunday”, he wrote on Twitter.
However, according to Dutch newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad , de Wijs could be one of those players Adkins is keen to get over the line.
The report claims the 23-year-old will be allowed to leave PSV this summer with his first-team chances at the Philips Stadion looking bleak and as a result both clubs are keen on pushing through a deal quickly.
But, while both clubs are reportedly in talks, an agreement that would see de Wijs swap the Eredivisie for the Championship, something that he cited as an ambition earlier in the summer.
“The Championship, the second division of England. That would be wonderful,” the defender said in May after completing a season long loan with Dutch top flight side Excelsior.
“The football in that league and the way in which football in England is experienced is me.”
With just a month to go until the Tigers are due to get the season underway against Aston Villa, Adkins has so far been able to welcome just one new player to the KCOM Stadium this summer, landing Eric Lichaj from Nottingham Forest.
However, as July progresses he will hope to be able to bolster his depleted ranks sooner rather than later.
Adkins and in squad are due to travel to the Algarve this weekend, where they play their opening two friendlies of the pre-season campaign, facing Maritimo and Braga in Albufeira.
