How to sign up to a brilliant five mile muddy obstacle course for Dove House Hospice

Runners that fancy getting covered in dirt as part of a charity event are being encouraged to sign up to a five mile muddy obstacle course, to have a bit of fun and raise money for Hull and East Yorkshire’s only hospice at the same time.

Dove House Hospice is looking for hundreds of people to get caked in mud on Saturday, March 16, in the beautiful grounds of Sledmere House, near Driffield.

Get Caked! participants will climb over, jump through, crawl under and run across natural and man-made obstacles with the aim to get as filthy as possible.

The hospice is always looking for new ways to raise the much needed funds to keep their doors open.

Anita Brien, events coordinator at Dove House, said: “We rely on our local community to help us raise the money we need to care for our patients and their families and taking part in events like Get Caked! is a great way to support us.

“Not only is it a fun day out with friends but you can celebrate on the finish line with a medal and slice of cake – perfect.”

Dove House Hospice cares for people living with a terminal illness across Hull and East Yorkshire.

A big part of what the hospice does is supporting friends and family, both throughout an illness and after their loved one has died.

For many patients, getting a referral to Dove House is scary. Teams of nurses, doctors, healthcare assistants and therapists work with patients, finding out what they enjoy, what helps them to feel safe and what makes them feel themselves.

Annual running costs of the hospice are more than £7.5m and it relies on the donations from supporters to ensure they can continue providing this care.

Rich McKeating, a personal trainer from North Ferriby, has supported Dove House Hospice across various events and is helping with the preparations for Get Caked! As winner of a Men’s Health Personal Trainer Award, Rich’s experience is helping make this charity run fun and accessible to all whilst also being a real challenge for many.
