Football fans are calling for England football legend Gary Neville to return home early from the World Cup and head to a popular Hull nightclub to watch Saturday’s big match against Sweden.
The former footballer, who is working as a pundit for ITV during the World Cup in Russia, has been begged by fans on social media after he tweeted his approval of the wild scenes at Piper on Tuesday night as England progressed in a nail-biting penalty shootout.
The club once again put on one of their now-famous viewing nights as hundreds of fans packed into the Newland Avenue venue, and the scenes of celebrations when the winning penalty was scored were euphoric.
The former England international retweeted a post by Piper which showed the scenes of celebration and also posted a simple comment but one that the 24-million TV viewers last night would agree with – “Wow!!”
Supporters are now calling for Gary to forget his big-money punditry contract with ITV and make a trip to Hull to watch the quarter final against Sweden.
Posting online, one supporter said: “Get yourself down @GNev2 apparently @LennoxLewis is coming down for a pint as well #itscominghome”
Meanwhile another fan has asked Gary if his brother, former England player and current England Women’s manager Phil, fancies joining him on Saturday.
The video, which has been retweeted over 400 times, shows drinks being thrown up in the air and cannons blowing confetti and smoke in every direction. Fans then started belting out the Lightening Seeds classic It’s Coming Home as they jumped for joy.
Tuesday’s win puts the Three Lions within touching distance of their first World Cup semi final since 1990 and their first final since their one and only appearance in 1966.
