David Copperfield film is transforming Hull’s Old Town into Dickensian England

A street in Hull’s Old Town is slowly being transformed into Dickensian England for the filming of an all-star movie.

Production teams have taken over Prince Street, an iconic area of the city’s Old Town, and are currently creating fake windows and shop fronts before the cast arrive for the filming of The Personal History of David Copperfield.

Entire rooms are also being built in streets off Scale Lane, transporting the area back in time to the 1840s.

The film, directed by Armando Iannucci, chronicles the life of the eponymous Charles Dickens character from his unhappy childhood to the discovery of his gift as a storyteller and writer.

Production teams began work on the area on Monday, with filming set to take place in Prince Street on Tuesday, July 10. This is the perfect time for movie maniacs to potentially feast their eyes on the acting talents of Peter Capaldi, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Dev Patel, Paul Whitehouse and more.
