Championship transfer news: Manchester United to rival Liverpool for midfielder, Derby County to lose international

Clubs scrap it out for Shaqiri

Manchester United are ready to rival Liverpool for the signature of Stoke City midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, according to the Sun .

The midfielder is expected to move on from the bet365 Stadium this summer following Stoke’s relegation from the Premier League and his performances in the World Cup with Switzerland are only likely to have fuelled interest.

Shaqiri scored a last minute winner against Serbia earlier in the competition but was part of the Swiss side to lose to Sweden in the knockout rounds on Tuesday and will now leave Russia to begin his summer break.

However, while Shaqiri is still contracted to the Potters for another two seasons, he has spoken about his desire to avoid playing Championship football this season.

Derby midfielder set for Premier League

Derby County midfielder Craig Bryson appears set to make his switch to Cardiff City permanent this summer.

Bryson spent last season on loan at the Cardiff City Stadium, helping Neil Warnock’s side to an unlikely promotion to the Premier League, making 22 appearances along the way.

But it seems the expiration of his loan spell will not be the end of his time in South Wales, with the 31-year-old expected to rejoin the Bluebirds this summer, according to the Derby Telegraph.

The report claims the deal is still in the early stages, but it expected to progress without a hitch.

The Rams are making their own movements in the transfer window and according to Sky Sports saw a bid rejected for Brentford winger Florian Josefzoon yesterday.

Interest aplenty in McGoldrick

Former Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick is attracting interest from Bristol City, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The striker left Portman Road at the end of the season after failing to agree a deal to stay with the Tractor Boys and it seems he is not short of potential suitors.

McGoldrick spent five-and-a-half seasons with Ipswich, scoring 38 league goals in 146 appearances, but it seems a number of clubs have identified the Irishman as the man to bolster their attacking options this summer.

Bristol City are also thought to be very close to signing Sheffield Wednesday defender Jack Hunt.
