Exciting plans for an £8m new shopping park, including a discount supermarket, could create 70 jobs at Bridlington.
As well as a discount food store, four additional retail, food and drink outlets are proposed for the site next to Bridlington railway station.
North East developer Fintry Estates has been chosen by East Riding Council as the preferred developer of the council-owned former coach park at Hilderthorpe Road.
Graham Wilson, of Fintry Estates, said: “The development represents an exciting opportunity to regenerate a currently under-utilised site in a gateway location on the approach to Bridlington town centre.
“It would enhance the existing range and choice of shopping provision serving local residents and help deliver additional spin-off trade for existing facilities in the centre.
“We look forward to working with the council to help deliver this important site.”
The plans will go on public display next week at an exhibition at Bridlington Spa. It comes after the Bridlington Town Centre Area Action Plan, adopted in January 2013, allocated the 1.4 hectare site for a supermarket.
Earlier this year the town’s new coach park at Limekiln Lane was opened following a £1m investment by East Riding Council.

Fintry has appointed national planning and development consultancy Lichfields to manage the application.
Jonathan Wallace, senior director at Lichfields, said: “The proposals have the potential to generate approximately 70 full-time equivalent jobs and would represent a significant investment in the local area.
“Such a development cannot realistically be accommodated in the town’s main retail area, given the lack of available sites.”
The public exhibition will be held on Thursday, July 12, at Bridlington Spa between 3pm and 6pm. Leaflets have been sent out to residents across Bridlington with comments forms, which can be returned using the Freepost address provided.
Alternatively, comments forms will available at the public exhibition itself, where representatives of the developers will be there to answers any questions people have on the proposals, with comments needing to be made by Friday July 20.
East Riding Council leader Councillor Stephen Parnaby is urging residents to have their say.
He said: “The council is pleased to be working with Fintry Estates, as the preferred developer, and planning and development consultancy Lichfields to bring these exciting multi-million-pound proposals for Hilderthorpe Road, Bridlington, forward.
“The regeneration of the town continues to be a top priority for this council and the current Bridlington Integrated Transport Plan Phase 2 (BridITP2) works are playing a vitally important role in opening up town centre sites for development.
“Securing an £8m private investment, including a 2,000 sqm discount supermarket and four smaller units for shops and restaurants as well as 240 car parking spaces, will provide a boost to the local economy and create much-needed employment opportunities for local people.”
