All parents will know how hard it can be to keep kids amused on rainy days.
Many days out and attractions rely on the weather and simply aren’t the same if the sun doesn’t shine.
There are however plenty of places to visit when the heavens open. Our family and parenting writer Joanna Lovell looks at the best places to visit in Hull and also at those within driving distance of the city which are good for a rainy day.

There aren’t many places where you can ski, trampoline, rock climb, golf and eat and drink all under one roof.
But drive not too far along the M62 to Castleford and you will find Xscape Yorkshire, one of Yorkshire’s favourite family attractions, where you can do all this and more.

24 Eureka! The National Children’s Museum
There’s one big difference between traditional museums and Eureka! the Children’s museum: here, they are encouraged to touch and play with everything!
From astronauts, doctors and bankers to chefs, car mechanics and postmen, Eureka! is a magical land where children can become whatever they like – for a day at least.

The actual animal farm only plays a small part of the attraction as a whole, on a rainy day there is a huge indoor play barn to explore.
27 The National Railway Museum in York
28 Alpamare Waterpark
It’s not just waterslides at the Alpamare Scarborough waterpark. There are also two outdoor pools which are both open 365 days of the year.
The warm outdoor garden pool is heated to 35C and is complete with whirlpools and bubble recliners. There is also an infinity pool heated to 36C, which is filled with healing iodine water which provides the perfect place to relax.
